  6. Shame, shame, SHAME on the Symphony’s Board of Directors for letting this happen. The hard-working and world-class musicians of the CSO deserve to not have their pensions gutted, their hours cut, and their wages slashed – when will their Board and Counsel learn their lesson?

  7. They must have a less than zero comprehension of economics. The Orchestra cannot possibly regain the loss of just one performance. The last time the Symphony members chose to strike it was on a night I had tickets. I took my guests to dinner, and found about four members outside Orchestra Hall. They have no clue as to the damamge they do by striking. Why not offer to either man the phones for the necessary fundraising or offer to perform for donors who increase their contributions. The people suffering are those who buy the tickets and make donations. Probably suffering more are the dedicated non-musician employees and volunteers who give their time, energy and efforts to see that Chicago has the World’s best.

  8. Can you imagine any of the musicians wanting another job? I don’t think they would make a move for more pay unless it was for a Principal Chair of one of very few orchestras of the world that are in Chicago’s category. To me, this is another ugly, disgusting episode of a Union displaying its power to the detriment of ALL. I would encourage concert goers to turn their backs to the orchestra when the Concertmaster comes out. So very sorry this is happening. (Last night’s concert was fabulous.)
