Hoping to avoid the worst of a storm system forecast to rage all night over Wrigley Field, the Cubs moved up Thursday night’s game time by a half hour.

And it worked.

Sort of.

Behind the dominant pitching of starter Jose Quintana, and a two-run seventh inning, the Cubs beat the rain to take a lead before waiting out a 69-minute delay, then finished off the Pirates for a 2-0 victory that gave the Cubs their first series victory in four tries so far this year.
